X-Men: Days of Future Past is the 2014 20th Century Studios live-action film adapting the Marvel Comics characters and storyline suggested in the title.
Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine in this seventh movie in the series, which bridges the original films and the 2011 prequel X-Men: First Class. With The Sentinels hunting and killing mutants in the future year of 2023, Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) uses her ability (heretofore unknown to viewers) to project a consciousness through time pushing Wolverine back to 1973. There he enlists the younger X-Men, only to find them fractured: Magneto (Michael Fassbender) is imprisoned, Xavier (James McAvoy) is a broken down drunk who suppresses his powers. Nevertheless Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) aid Logan in recruiting Quicksilver (Evan Peters) in reassembling a new team to stop the emergence of the Sentinels.
Bryan Singer directs from a script by Simon Kinberg. The film was well-received by critics and fans, and largely considered the best of the franchise. It was, for many years, the highest-grossing picture in the franchise.
It was followed by X-Men: Apocalypse.
