Shocker: WBD Kills Batgirl Film
The much-anticipated feature-length Batgirl movie is dead. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. Discovery has shelved the project, which has already gone through principal production, and will not be releasing it on HBO Max, or in any other form.
Reportedly, the movie did not fit into the company's new game plan for DC Comics-based content, which is now shaping up to be high-budget, high-spectacle. Although Batgirl's budget was over $70 million, it did not have the feel of a theatrical tentpole that the new WBD regime is seeking.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys For Life) directed the film, with Leslie Grace, Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons all cast in the movie.
The new WBD management has been notoriously ruthless with its budget, but it seems strange to cite cost savings after so much money is already spent.
