"name screen-writer" is adapting Outbreed 999, Blackout's
first comic book. |
| Painkiller Jane |

Reported By DNCC,

The DNCC spoke to Event Comics honcho Jimmy Palmiotti about the status
of the Ash animated feature in development at Dreamworks.
Although there was little new news on that front, Palmiotti did say that he and
partner Joe Quesada were pitching their other popular creation, Painkiller
Jane as their next Hollywood project. |
| Plastic Man |
 |
Reported By HOL and CNSC, 4/16/99: |
The buzz around Larry and Andy Wachowski, the brother
writer/director team responsible for the hit movie The Matrix,
continues. Recent stories associate the brothers, once writers for Marvel
comics, with as many as four comic-based movies. A recent Hollywood Online article detailing the
rise of the brothers to their current status mentions a few. As we reported
last week the brothers have completed a script for Alan Moore's V for
Vendetta. Matrix producer Joel Silver would
also produce this, which is described in the article as a sophisticated action film with
an enigmatic hero.
In addition to Vendetta, the article reveals that the
brothers have written a screenplay for Plastic Man, which is to
be developed by Amblin. Like The Matrix, V
for Vendetta and Plastic Man are both at Warner
Bros.
So what of Warner's other great comic book franchise: Batman?
Might the Wachowski brothers be well suited for taking the reigns on that ailing
series? Warner Bros. production chief Lorenzo di Bonaventura has at
least considered it. The article state that di Bonaventura "had no comment,
though he said he would be lying if he didn't admit that the thought had crossed his
mind."
A new rumor emerged this week that relates to the Wachowskis, although it has already
been debunked. Mid-week a rumor sprung up that the brothers had been offered Spider-Man
by Columbia/TriStar. Cinescape followed up on these rumors and learned that the Wachowskis
will not be doing Spider-Man.

The DNCC ran some comments from Alex Simmons, creator of Blackjack,
about the prospect of his character coming to television. According to the article,
a film company named Dog Star has teamed with Spike Lee's 40
Acres and a Mule to find a home for Blackjack. If
a studio give the project the green light, Rob Bowman (X-Files, Quantum
Leap) is set to direct. Most likely the project will end up as a
syndicated series. Blackjack isn't the only Dark Angel
comic being developed. Simmons told the DNCBC "There's also been some grand
reactions to Race Against Time at a few production
companies." |

Reported By DNCC,
7/24/98: |
In an update on Rob Liefeld's big movie project The Mark
(with Will Smith), the DNCC
reports that Liefeld is also angling a deal for his Awesome Comics title Re:Gex.
Furthermore, Liefeld is looking to direct the $10million production of his comic.
The article quotes the comic pro as saying "I think it's time for the
comic-book guys to get behind the camera and do the comic-book films." |

Reported By DNCC,
8/19/98: |
Awesome Entertainment's Rob Liefeld is moving forward
with plans to adapt his comic book creation Re:Gex into a movie.
According to the DNCC Liefeld is
writing the script and will direct the film. The article quotes Liefeld as saying,
"I'm about four weeks from handing [the script] in. I firmly believe that we
comics creators need to pick up the cameras and make our own movies because they don't get
it. So many of these comics movies don't work because the people doing them don't
get it. They go, 'Oh, let's make it a joke,' and we want a serious take on this
stuff." The budget for the movie is said to be $10 million. "It's a very
small budget, and, as I'm writing the script, with a small budget, the beginning of the
movie I have a big sequence with special effects and the end of the movie I have a big
sequence with special effects. Everything in the middle is character, character,
character." Liefeld told the DNCBC the he hopes to begin production in February
or March. |

Reported By DNCC,
2/9/99: |
Rob Liefeld spoke to the DNCC about his
various movie projects. The article quotes Liefeld as saying, "In regards to
the Re:Gex movie, I am still writing the script and whipping it
into shape. Without a script, there can be no film, but I remain very optimistic
about it. I have an offer to direct it at a few smaller labels, but it may wind up at a
major studio and then it will be a different situation altogether." Liefeld also
told the Continuum that he's completed work on two spec scripts and will be working on a
new Avengelyne script for New Line. |
