Reported by Variety, 10/15/2001:

Variety reports that Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is already laying the groundwork for a sequel to next summer's most-anticipated comic book adaptation. According to the report Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst have option deals for two more Spidey flicks.

Reported by Corona Coming Attractions, 2/9-2/11/2001:
Sony was surprisingly forthcoming with photos of the Spider-Man costume but is holding the Green Goblin designs closer to the vest in order to maintain some surprises. Nevertheless, an anonymous scooper for Corona Coming Attractions claims to have seen designs for the Goblin costume, and offers his observations.

"They're amazing," the scooper raved. The designs apparently have a close resemblance to the Steve Ditko and John Romita's takes on the character. The character's eyes are said to be "bulbous beyond belief" causing the scooper to speculate that actor Willem Dafoe's eyes will not be visible, but that prosthetics or CGI will be used. Naturally, the character has pointed ears too. The costume's hood will obscure the top of the face at times.

The costume itself is said to be the classic purple and green colors, although with darker hues. The costume will resemble a sort of medieval, leather armor. According to the scooper, the goblin glider is said to be "more menacing and bat-like" and "painted like and old, rusted metal thing."

As far as other villains go, this same scooper claims that Ted Raimi is definitely playing Dr. Curt Connors in the film. The scooper has seen design illustrations of Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, but confirms that the character does not appear in the script for the first movie. It's possible we may see The Lizard in a sequel.

The scooper has also spied design sketches for Doctor Octopus, who was in earlier drafts of the script. Although Ock is said to be out of the first film, the scooper does claim that there is a lab scene featuring a device that has four mechanical arms (for handling hazardous materials). This may still provide viewers with an Ock cameo, or at least foreshadowing of the character.

Reported by Comics2Film, 1/19/2001:

Comics2Film received a pair of e-mails yesterday from Jason, a fan who served as a spectator on the recent filming of the Spider-Man movie. The first thing that Jason wanted to point out was that talk of Macho Man Randy Savage having an expanded role in a Spidey sequel was only in jest.

"That was just a joke that [director Sam Raimi] said...because at the beginning of shooting, he thought Randy was overacting a little, so he said something like 'Don't over-do it Randy, the name of this film is Spider-Man not Macho-Man. The audience all jeered jokingly at Raimi, and then he jokingly said, 'However in the sequel...' to which Randy and the audience cheered. I don't think he was serious though"

Jason went on to give us this run down of the filming:

"Things actually started about 9:30ish after everyone got to their seats. I'm not a good judge of amounts of people but I'd say there were at least 1,000 at this taping. The studio was basically set up as a wrestling arena with a ring in the middle and bleachers on each side, and a steel cage that would come down from the ceiling.

"They started shooting the scenes where Peter Parker arrives at the match first and then started shooting some wrestling scenes between Bone Saw (Savage) and some unknown contestant. There were lots of 'Bone Saw' signs everywhere.

"Bruce Campbell was there playing what looked like the wrestling arena owner, announcing stuff like the winner and who was the next 'victim' as he called the contestants facing Bone Saw.

"One of the wrestlers names was 'The Flying Dutchman'. When it was Peter Parker's turn, they had him behind a screen silhouetted screen at the top of the ramp that led down to the ring, and Campbell announces something like 'the horrifying, the terrifying, the amazing Spider-Man' to which the crowd jeers because they all love Bone Saw.

"The screen lifts and you see Spider-Man in what looks like pajamas: a red long sleeved t-shirt with a Spider-Man emblem on the front and back, blue sweat pants with red stripes down the side, red shoes, and a red hooded mask with the eyes cut out.

"He makes his way to the stage at which point when he enters, the crowd was to start chanting 'cage' and then the cage is brought down from the ceiling, which Spider-Man obviously knew nothing about and looks like he's in for more than he thought he'd be in for.

"The didn't really film too much of the fight the first day. By the end they had the Spidey double in filming some jumps and leaps over Bone Saw which looked really cool. There will be scenes of him using his web slingers in the cage and climbing up the cage.

"A lot of time was spent mainly preparing camera angles around the ring and cage, sometimes taking panels and ropes off. They were almost finished building another set next to it, this one was the side off a historic-looking building with a terrace. They were making it so that part of the terrace was going to fall off from the building.

"They also mentioned that they would be filming an outdoor 'New York Times Square' scene in mid-march, that was going to be 'crazy' with fairs and lots of more people. Hopefully I can be a part of that as well."

Reported by Dark Horizons, 1/17/2001:

Dark Horizons published reports from fans who served as spectators at the filming of Spider-Man this week. The scoopers for that site provided a description of the action they witnessed on the set of the wrestling ring confrontation between the newly empowered Peter Parker and Bone Saw McGraw.

Professional wrestling veteran Macho Man Randy Savage played McGraw. He reportedly sports and extra long beard and wrestling tights with the words "Saw Bone" written on it.

Bruce Campbell was also on the scene playing the ring announcer. Campbell reportedly wore sunglasses and "a loungy gold blazer."

After two foes are taken down by Bone Saw, the "Amazing Spider-Man" takes the ring. Remember, this is Parker's first outing as Spidey, so he's not wearing the full costume yet. The scooper claimed that Parker wears "a red cheese cloth mask, and a goofy long sleeve shirt with a spider on the back, and a spider with webs airbrushed on the front, and some blue Addidas pants lined with red. And some Nikes in Spider-man colors of course."

Spidey is derided by the Bone-Saw-loving crowd until he shows his stuff, flipping and spinning webs to defeat the wrestler. Fans will be relieved to hear that Spider-Man uses the the traditional hand gesture (pinky, index and thumb extended, other fingers curled in) when spinning webs.

Director Sam Raimi also makes a cameo in the scene as do some of the "Women of Wrestling." Raimi reportedly told fans that the Macho Man would be back in a much bigger role for "part two" (presumably referring to the expected sequel).

The scooper also told fans to watch the TVTix website next week. Apparently there'll be another opportunity to be part of the filming in March.
