Britney X!

by Marcelo Gomes

See how to create a cool-looking uniform over a picture of a naked person (Editor's Note: Knowing Britney Spears to be pure of heart it is our belief that any naked pictures of her, including Marcelo's starting image, are themselves photomanipulations).

Here's some tips to make it look more realistic! This tutorial was made using Photoshop 5.5, but I believe you'll be able to do it using Paint Shop Pro too. Also, you can download the tutorial.psd file that will help you understand some of the effects. Enjoy!

First, you go find the perfect pose for your concept. I got a manipulation somoeone made with Britney Spears. Sorry, I'm not posting the original...   :)

Use the lasso tool to select the shape of the uniform. Check my Solid Gold Famke tutorial to learn more about the lasso tool.

Use CTRL+C and CTRL+V to paste the selection on a new layer.

Use the HUE/SATURATION tool to colorize the new layer (see Solid Gold Famke tutorial). the basis of the uniform is done.

Use the lasso tool to select the area to make brighter, to give volume to the uniform. Use Select/Feather (3) on the selection and then use BRIGHTNESS and CONTRAST.

Use the same process to make darker areas.

Now I want to give a realistic edges to the uniform, and some highlights. I simply draw white and black lines on a new layer. Then, duplicate this new layer. Make the first one MODE: OVERLAY and the second one MODE: SOFT LIGHT. (see the tutorial.psd file for reference) This will create a nice volume effect.

Now, I want to make a new effect that I use a lot in my X-MEN concepts. Make a selection using the lasso tool. Use any tool you prefer to make it darker or paint with another color. DON'T DESELECT YET!!!

With the same selection, create a new layer, paint it white. Use SELECT / MODIFY / CONTRACT (value=1). Use DELETE.
You'll get the shape to create a detail that separates the two colors of the uniform.
You can color it now.

In the same layer, use the DODGE tool (make things brighter) and the BURN tool (make things darker) to draw some volume in this line.

 DODGE tool   BURN tool
Crate a new layer. Draw some detail in the uniform, using white lines.
It can be used for pockets, lines, textures...
Duplicate the layer. Use BRIGHTNESS and CONTRAST to make the lower layer black.

Make the layer with the black lines MODE: OVERLAY (opacity 63) and the layer with the white lines MODE: OVERLAY (opacity 100).
Move the black layer some pixels to the right or to the left, up or down, according to the light to create the volume effect.
Now you can do anything with the uniform. change the color, brightness etc. In this case, I used Squedge's hair tutorial to complete Britney's hair and make the pic more realistic.

Hope this will help you!!!
